Testimonials:
Indian Children’s Program, UNM Center for Developmental
Disabilities services is a valuable service for children. It
is definitely an essential service and must acknowledge the staff
for listing and acknowledging what Indian families are saying and
for there continues support and assistance. For the Indian
families communication is critical.
Jeanette Trancosa, Parent, San Felipe Pueblo
The University of New Mexico School
Of Medicine’s Indian
Children’s Program (ICP) had provided critical and much needed
outreach, consultation and critical assessments to poor and medically
challenged children and their families in our school district.
Many of our families live in remote canyons and mesa’s necessitating
that their children be housed in dormitories during the week so
that they can be bused to school. Couples with poverty are
the attendant issues of unemployment, high rates of addiction and
sucidality and children born with developmental delays and genetic
anomalies. The Four Corners lack adequate services, in particular
child and adolescent medical and mental health professionals, to
adequately serve these children and their families. ICP has
been an invaluable and greatly appreciated outreach service to
our schools and community. They have met with families, provided
critical assessments, diagnostics, and recommendation for vulnerable
children, and given much needed consultation and guidance to schools
attempting to plan and provide relevant academic interventions.

Cooke, LISW
This program has done a lot of services
for our Indian Children and Staff here at San Felipe Pueblo Head
Start. As well as providing parenting training for our parents
and community. We need
their services and support from this program.

As a developmental specialist with NAPPR,
I have consistently used the ICP evaluation teams to examine
the developmental needs of the Native American Children (0-3)
that I work with. The
Indian Children’s Program has consistently provided high
quality evaluations, coupled with excellent support strategies
and follow up.
The individuals who have been affiliated with ICP have employed
a great deal of sensitivity & Support for the families I have
referred. I have always valued their expertise, knowledge
and flexibilities.
